The castle in Ząbkowice Śląskie boasts 700 years of rich history. The current Renaissance building was built between 1522 and 1532 on the site of a Gothic defensive castle that was destroyed in the mid-15th century. The new residence was created at the initiative of Prince Charles I of Poděbrady. It changed owners numerous times and survived countless wars. Despite this, its individual sections remained functional until World War II. Its defensive character is still evident in the still-visible bastions, attic protecting guard posts, and embrasures. Currently being secured as part of subsequent stages of revitalization, it will be fully open to tourists.
